Joseph G. Peterson grew up in Wheeling, Illinois. He worked in an aluminum mill and in the masonry trade as a laborer. He attended the University of Chicago, where he got his BA in philosophy. His newest release is Frank Buck: Chicago Hitman. He is the author of ten previous books, including Gunmetal Blue, which led Kirkus Reviews to dub him “one of the Windy City’s best-kept secrets,” and The Perturbation of O, which caused Newcity to call him “a master of contemplative, poetic prose." The Architecture of Chicago's Beverly Hills/Morgan Park is the first large-format visual record published of these Southwest Side communities in Chicago. The historic and significant architecture and distinctive landscape of these neighborhoods is recorded in Mati Maldre's 8.5x11 in. hard-cover book, published by Belt Publishing. The book includes 256 duotone plates (including 18 two page panoramic photographs), five maps, three illustrations and two appendixes, supplemented by essays by Timothy Barton, Harold Wolff, Robert Wagner, Paul Sprague and Mati Maldre. Many of Chicago's most important designers are represented in this community, including Frank Lloyd Wright, George Washington Maher, Daniel H. Burnham, Robert E. Seyfarth, Dwight H. Perkins, Robert S. Smith and Walter Burley Griffin. This community also called on noteworthy local architects, including Harry Hale Waterman, Rudolph P. Boehm, and John Topp Hetherington and his son Murray. The book also documents the National Register of Historic Place's Ridge Historic District, as well as Chicago's Longwood Drive District, the Walter Burley Griffin District, and the Beverly/Morgan Park Railroad Station District, as well as individual designated historic houses.
