Book Launch and Signing with Author/Photographer Mati Maldre

Mati Maldre is a retired Professor of Art/Photography from Chicago State University (CSU). Maldre initiated the photography program and taught at CSU, as well as the Beverly Art Center for 35 years. He earned a B.A. in Design from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a M.S. in Photography from the Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Maldre studied with significant photographers: Aaron Siskind, Arthur Siegel, Joseph Jachna, Charles Swedlund, Paul Caponagro, and Jerry Ulesmann. His photographs have been widely published, placed in collections, and exhibited in/with significant organizations such as the Art Institute of Chicago, Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, the International Venice Architecture Biennial and the Chicago Architecture Biennial. He has photographed for the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Historic American Building Survey, the Illinois Historic Building Survey and Chicago’s Landmarks Commission. Maldre was the co-author and photographer for Walter Burley Griffin in America and The Chicago Bungalow. He also provided photographs for The Griffins in Australia and India, and the Beverly chapter of The AIA Guide to Chicago Architecture. Maldre received numerous commissions and grants, including two Graham Foundation Grants, a National Endowment for the Arts Individual Grant and an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship. Currently, he is the Chair of the Historic Buildings Committee at the Ridge Historical Society, where since 1999 he has been on the Board of Directors.
