A Seat at the Table Books

A Seat at the Table Books is a family-owned "third space" bookstore in Elk Grove, CA, that fosters community through a book selection curated around representation, eco-friendly coffee, and mission-driven events. We strive to be safe and affirming for all identities. As a third space, we're somewhere you belong outside of home and work.

As part of our mission, we have a cafe with eco-friendly hot coffee, cold brew, and tea, along with locally baked pastries, breakfast and lunch options, beer and wine, and even floats!

We're also an event venue and accept reservations!

Do you identify as a bookstore cat? Do you need a quiet, sacred space to read in community? This event is for you! Join our ASATTCI volunteer for a silent and cozy community event at the bookstore. Bring your own book or discover a new one on the shelves! This quiet get-together is the purrrfect opportunity to dive into that book you totally meant to start but haven't gotten to yet because you just have a lot going on right now, and it's hard to find time when you also have the energy, you know? Come in comfy clothes or PJs and bring blankets and pillows if you'd like. We all get overwhelmed by life, so this will be a silent event where we can focus on reading and being in community. Small, quiet snacks will be provided. The fire starts at 7pm, and we’ll keep our comfortable nook warm until 8:15pm. Please enter with silence or whispers so that we can maintain a quiet atmosphere. We hope to see you--there's always a seat for you here 😊 The store will be closed at 7, and this event is volunteer-led through our nonprofit partner. Capacity is limited, so if you RSVP, please make sure to show up. No outside food or drink, please. This event is geared for adults.

Tea and Tales: A Grownup Read-Aloud

7:00 PM • Monday, October 5, 2026A Seat at the Table Books$6

Join ASATTCI and Abby Moreno for tea, coloring, and the incredible feeling of being read to as an adult. A read-aloud for adults? YES! Across time and cultures, oral storytelling has been an essential part of creating and fostering community. Sharing this tradition by reading aloud as adults, and by gathering to hear others read, can help us calm our nervous systems, hear stories differently, build connections with others, and feel uplifted and supported in a very difficult world. Join ASATT Community Initiative volunteer Abby Moreno for a peaceful and connective evening. As you listen to her read, you can sip hot or iced tea and use our provided supplies to color or bring your own crafts or silent fidgets. Please note, we choose from a few book options as a group, and the content of the chosen book may include horror, sexuality, etc. Reserve your spot now and come be in peaceful community with us.

Tea and Tales: A Grownup Read-Aloud

7:00 PM • Monday, August 2, 2027A Seat at the Table Books$6

Bookstore Cats Fireside Reading

7:00 PM • Monday, August 16, 2027A Seat at the Table Books$3
