The Mighty WMMR
In the early 1980s, the scrappy radio station 93.3 WMMR was on the verge of a major takeover of the Philadelphia airwaves. Erin Riley, who had her finger on the pulse of new artists like Bon Jovi, whose music would define a generation, was hired as the station’s Music Director in 1983. The Mighty WMMR is Riley’s affectionate and nostalgic oral history of the station’s early years, especially its 1980s heyday, covering everything from the pioneering influence of The Marconi Experiment and the success of The Morning Zoo to how WMMR broke artists like Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, and local favorites The Hooters onto the national scene. Featuring anecdotes and memories by beloved on-air personalities including John DeBella, Pierre Robert, and Michael Tearson, Riley chronicles the memorable songs and musicians; concerts, contests, and clubs; and the live broadcasts that marked the height of an unforgettable era in Philadelphia radio. Riley breezily captures the station’s impact on listeners, which made WMMR a perfect storm of the times, the culture, and the counterculture. The Mighty WMMR is a captivating look back at Philadelphia’s rock history and the station that shaped a city and a generation.

Join us in welcoming author Erin Riley to Doylestown, PA, as she discusses and signs her new book, The Mighty WMMR, at The Doylestown Bookshop on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026, at 6:30 pm. She will be in conversation with radio host Ray Koob.

This is a ticketed event. Each ticket includes admission for one person and a paperback copy of The Mighty WMMR.

THIS IS A TICKETED EVENT - HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Doors open at 5:30 pm, and the event will start at 6:30 pm.
Each ticket admits one person and includes one paperback copy of The Mighty WMMR. No substitutions.
Books will be available for pick-up at the event.
The author will sign and personalize books with your first name only, with no messages. She will not be able to sign any posters, bookmarks, scraps of paper, etc...
You may bring TWO books from home to be signed by the author in addition to anything purchased in the store during the event.
An adult must accompany children under 16.
If you cannot attend the event, we will hold your books at the front counter of The Doylestown Bookshop for pick-up. We will do our best to have them signed, but that is not guaranteed. We can hold books for up to two weeks. Any books that have not been picked up or arranged to be shipped by the two-week mark will be donated. Please give us 24 hours post-event to prepare your books for pick-up.

Erin Riley
Erin Riley built a 40-year career in the music business, programming hit songs for major-market stations including KROQ-FM Los Angeles and WMMR-FM Philadelphia. She led the Philadelphia GRAMMY Chapter and founded Rock & Roll After School, where kids wrote and performed original songs. Riley is the author of A Dark Force: 20 Years with a Covert Narcissist. She lives in Lambertville, NJ, and serves as Music Supervisor for the hit series The Recording Artist.

The Doylestown Bookshop
"The Doylestown and Lahaska Bookshops are locally owned and operated bookstores dedicated to preserving the heritage and traditions of independent bookstore ideals. Since opening our doors in downtown Doylestown in 1998, we have offered our customers an alternative to the ordinary. We carry an extensive inventory of new books, from classic literature to current bestsellers, and a curated selection of gifts, cards, toys and much more. Our staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and looking forward to helping you choose the perfect book for you or your family. Both bookstores were sold again in September 2023 to long-time Bucks County residents and business owners Lauren & Damian Ford. We opened our second store, the Lahaska Bookshop, in September 2017. The Lahaska Bookshop is located in Peddler's Village and is dedicated to providing the same customer service and wide selection of books that the Doylestown Bookshop provides.
