We're so glad to be welcoming author and scientific illustrator Emily Grandy, in conversation with author Eiren Caffall, to celebrate her new novel, Cupido Cupido.
16 year old Egg is sent to his grandfather's farm in Kentucky for the summer, where he discovers a strange, maybe back from extinction? bird on his family's land. Through his new relationships with the out-of-town scientists who come to study the birds, the Kentucky locals, and his reticent grandfather, Egg navigates family estrangement, cultural inheritance, and the complex act of growing up.

Emily Grandy
Emily Grandy is an award-winning novelist, biomedical editor, and environmentalist writing at the intersection of science and storytelling. Her debut novel, Michikusa House, was awarded the Landmark Prize, the Silver Nautilus Book Award, and was longlisted for the Edna Ferber Book Award. Her second novel, Cupido Cupido, won the Sowell Emerging Writer’s Prize and was a finalist for the PEN/Bellwether Prize. She writes weekly at The Outsider, a Substack of quiet reflections on nature and our place in it. She lives at the confluence of the Milwaukee, Menomonee, and Kinnickinnic rivers on the shores of Lake Michigan.
Eiren Caffall
Eiren Caffall is a writer and musician whose work has appeared in Guernica, The Los Angeles Review of Books, Al Jazeera, The Rumpus, and on three record albums. She is the recipient of a Whiting Foundation Creative Nonfiction Grant and a Social Justice News Nexus fellowship at Northwestern University, among other awards. She is the author of the memoir, The Mourner's Bestiary and the novel, All the Water In the World.
