Getting Out: PW Talks with Courtney Maum

As characters, Alan and Vivian represent opposite teams in my own domestic life. I opt out of a lot of things: I don’t go to a gym, I try to opt out of buying on Amazon. But I have a tween daughter who wants to be a “baddy housewife”—her words—so I’m like an anti-consumer and my daughter is like a capitalist. Alan and Vivian, as a couple, represent the challenges of how to hold on to my own values while respecting my daughter’s desires.
